It is normal for a new mother to worry about if she is producing enough milk for the proper growth of her own baby. So, it is recommended that one should not worry much instead should check if her baby is gaining weight and growing accordingly to begin with, while feeding 6-8 times a day. There are several food that helps to increase the Milk supply So, one should include these in their daily diet to aid in their milk supply.
- Most importantly, you need to drink a lot of water. Never compromise on your water intake. Make sure you have atleast 8 ounces of water daily.
- Add barley and oats to your diet. Barley and oats are the richest dietary source of beta-glucan, a polysaccharide that has been shown to increase prolactin [known as the breastfeeding hormone].
- Fenugreek seeds are a source of healthy vitamins that are good for lactating mums such as omega-3 fats.
- Add other whole grains to your diet as well, such as brown rice, whole wheat etc.
There are a few other foods that can help increase your milk supply: Salmon, Beet leaves, Basil, Asparagus, Cumin, Apricots, Almonds, Sweet potatoes.
